One year after staging Dior Men’s first-ever Pre-Fall show in Tokyo, Kim Jones will present his Pre-Fall 2020 collection in Miami. Scheduled for December 3, the show will serve as an opening act for Art Basel Miami Beach, the international art fair, as well as a celebration of Dior’s heritage in America. The timing is apt for Jones, who has partnered with some of the world’s best-known contemporary artists, from Kaws to Daniel Arsham.
“The U.S. was the first place after France where Christian Dior enjoyed success, and I am looking at a project he did in the 1950s in the States as a starting point for Fall,” said Jones in a release.
“We are honored to be holding our second men’s Fall show in Miami, in the United States, a country with which we have a longstanding relationship going back decades, and with which we share a passion for art, design, and the values of modernity, innovation, and savoir faire that also are deeply rooted in the American culture,” echoed Pietro Beccari, Dior’s CEO.
As yet, no other international Pre-Fall shows have been announced, though the CFDA will still be holding its own Pre-Fall week in New York around the same time as the Dior Men’s Miami presentation. As for what impact Jones will have on the American market, well, we’ll say this: If anyone can get American men to ditch the trackies for a sash-adorned suit, it’s probably him.
